[net.sf-lovers] Herbert in the doldrums?

karl@dartvax.UUCP (Karl Berry.) (10/18/84)

Perry [Caro.PA@Xerox.arpa] writes that, in his opinion, Frank
Herbert has never written a good book except for Dune. Judging
from some of the other messages which I've read but didn't save,
it seems that this is not his opinion alone. Although, of course,
everyone [except perhaps Winston] can think what se wants, I find
some of Herbert's other books, notably Whipping Star, The Dosadi
Experiment, The Jesus Incident, and Hellstrom's Hive to be
fascinating excursions into some of the
limits/problems/experiments possible in communication, and social
structures. Sometimes his books are, shall we say, less than
crystalline, but I think the effort is worth it.
