I would like to know if there are any interested parties in forming a subgroup in sci.med to deal with preventive medicine. In case you are wondering, yes, this is the same person who was trying to start the lifex mailing list, but I am still trying to get the bugs out of doing multiple mailings. if I have missed a group (even an alt. group) that deals with this please let me know. I realize there are a lot of opinions out there, but if Pink Floyd rates a group, I figure stopping the aging process might also. -- Lee Wells (pick one address) wells@disk.UUCP DISK Inc. Would it be to discuss anti-smoking, drinking, and drug-taking campaigns, what sorts of exercize are best, environment and occupational medicine, immunizations, weight control? Or would it simply be another forum for vitamin quacks to discuss how many times the RDA of vitamin X or fubarium are necessary to avoid an early demise? If the latter, let's start it now and call it alt.med.prevent and leave the sci out.

As a person who's keenly aware of the widespread prevalence of quackery and the underlying ignorance of the scientific method, I would welcome such a group. If it turns out to be a forum for unproven nonsense, perhaps you and I could accomplish some good by imparting healthy skepticism to some true believers/suckers who might otherwise fall victim to the charlatans. Contrary to the folk maxim, it's dialog that's golden. By contrast, silence really sucks. -- Russell Lawrence, WP Group, New Orleans (504) 443-5000 russ@wpg.com uunet!wpg!russ

Stop the aging process and we'll get you one. Stop Pink Floyd's aging process, too. They're getting on and it's embarrassing. -- -- uunet!ficc!karl "...as long as there is a Legion of super-Heroes, all else can surely be made right." -- Sensor Girl
