[misc.legal] International Studenta and Unemployment Insurance hearing date.

kcho@watdaisy.UUCP (07/25/87)

               International students and Unemployment Insurance.

This case will be heard by the Umpire (a Judge) on Monday Aug 17,
at 2pm in the Court House, 20 Weber Street, Kitchener, Ontario.

Everyone is welcome.

If you know nothing about Canadian Law, Charter of Rights, judges,
lawyers and courts, this is the opportunity of your life to learn a bit.
Do not leave Canada without this information, it is really interesting.

This case may have consequences on the pay slip of international
students.

Background:
(I was an international student at U of W from 81 to 86.
During this time, I paid unemployment insurance premiums from
my salary as teaching assistant.
I am now unemployed because Immigration does not want to give me
a work permit. The UI Commission does not want to pay UI benefits
either because I do not have a work permit.
My lawyer and I think that this situation contravenes the Charter of
Rights, the Supreme Law of Canada. Let's see what the Judge thinks.)
