[net.music] Query: Digital Music Synthesis

rps@apollo.uucp (Robert Stanzel) (09/29/84)

[Reposting; this seems not to have made it out]

The goal is digital music synthesis via a general-purpose
processor, in non-real time.

The resources are Un*x System III software and Multibus output;
what software and hardware fill the gaps?

Clearly, a Multibus DAC is needed. Who makes these, how much to they cost?

Software to convert from high-level score to sound files is needed.
The only system I've used is Music-11, from the MIT EMS.
[EMS folk: How portable is it?] It's fairly expensive; are there others?

Thanks in advance for any help finding these pieces.

Try CARL from Stanford. That's what we use and it was cheap.
