[Reposting; this seems not to have made it out] The goal is digital music synthesis via a general-purpose processor, in non-real time. The resources are Un*x System III software and Multibus output; what software and hardware fill the gaps? Clearly, a Multibus DAC is needed. Who makes these, how much to they cost? Software to convert from high-level score to sound files is needed. The only system I've used is Music-11, from the MIT EMS. [EMS folk: How portable is it?] It's fairly expensive; are there others? Try CARL from Stanford. That's what we use and it was cheap. -Ron
