Just because an author uses "Blasters" in two different books doesn't mean that they occur in the same universe. Let's have some more substatial proof, like any mentioning of the process of "uplifting" (aliens or earthbond). I got the impression that the universe of "Practice" was one of biological engineering. The universe of "Sundiver" and "Startide" is one of atleast equal amounts of high tech. and biological sciences.
