I am considering purchasing sequences (for performance purposes) from one or more companies advertising that they sell sequenced music. Amoung other things, I am also a book retailer/wholesaler, so I DO know enough about how copyright law applies to sales of *PRINTED* copyright material to know that I can purchase sheet music from an *authorised* dealer and not have to make additional arrangements with the publisher for me to perform the music live in public (but NOT on TV or radio - broadcaste media must be licensed by the publisher; and NOT allow anyone to record said performance). However, I have doubts about purchasing sequenced music: How do *I* KNOW that the seller is properly licensed? What documentation do I need from the seller in order to protect me from liablity. Unlike printed sheet music, which the seller directly or indirectly purchases from the publisher, sequenced music is typically "manufactured" by the seller; thus the actual publisher is generally NOT involved, and, therefore, there is no implied license to perform. Please email or crosspost to rec.music.synth or comp.music as I do not normally have access to misc.legal Thanks in advance. - Ron Wilson rlw@ttardis sharkey!cfctech!ttardis!rlw uunet!edsews.eds.com!rel!ttardis!rlw
