Aloha! Does anyone know where I can find a good source of compaction concepts to compress digitized sound? (Sound effects, voices, all kinds) If you do please send me in the right direction. Thanks! USENET: Steve_A_Hales@cup.portal.com or sun!portal!cup.portal.com!Steve_A_Hales

Fortunately, you already have your sound in digital form. That means that you can used any compaction scheme used on digital information. I would recommend a Huffman Code, for starters. A standard reference is: Gallager, Robert G. *Variations on a Theme of Huffman.* I.E.E.E. Transactions on Information Theory, vol IT-24, no. 6, Nov 1978, pp. 668-674.
