[sci.crypt] Sound Compression!?

Steve_A_Hales@cup.portal.com (10/24/87)

Aloha!
Does anyone know where I can find a good source of compaction concepts
to compress digitized sound? (Sound effects, voices, all kinds) If you
do please send me in the right direction.

Thanks!

Fortunately, you already have your sound in digital form. That
means that you can used any compaction scheme used on digital
	information.

I would recommend a Huffman Code, for starters. A standard
	reference is:

Gallager, Robert G. *Variations on a Theme of Huffman.*
I.E.E.E. Transactions on Information Theory, vol IT-24, no. 6,
	Nov 1978, pp. 668-674.
