[misc.misc] Call For Discussion: comp.management

megabyte@chinet.chi.il.us (Dr. Megabyte) (03/28/89)

Managers and Management: I propose a group for the discussion of
topics and issues of concern to those who are in management
in the computer industry. Certainly I can't be the only person
in management who reads the net.

While we seem to have every technical, social, recreational, and
talkative topic possible we seem to have completely left managers
out. Certainly there are topics of concern and interest to those
of us who manage those who work in the computer industry.

Recruiting and retension, preventing employee burnout, delegation,
the transition from techie to management, even and fair workload
distribution, training, even management policy on reading the net(!),
all seem like topics that would interest managers and would produce
productive and interesting discussions. Many employees could and I think
would also find such discussions interesting and helpful.

I propose the creation of either a news group or maybe a mailing list
for the discussion of topics of interest to managers in
the computer industry. On the other hand, maybe I _am_ the only
person in management who reads the net. That's part of what
I'm trying to find out. Is there sufficient interest
in comp.management or maybe soc.management.. or even talk.management?

Two or three people have expressed an interest to me in a management
mailing list, but I want to see if there is any broader interest
first.
