[misc.misc] PcPursuit and Long Distance Modems

noel@uokmax.UUCP (Bamf) (07/26/89)

Sigh... Now that PcPursuit has decided that they can actually make
money off of their services, it has suddenly become time to look for
new alternatives.

(For those of you living in a cave, PcPursuit used to have an unlimited
nightime long distance modem service to selected cities for 25$/month.
They have now raised their prices to 30$/month, and have an 30
hour maximum. Anything more than 30 hours a month is charged at
$4.50/hour, I believe.)

I know that starlink exists, but as far as I know, it ends up
being even more expensive that PcPursuit, something like 10$ monthly,
and $1.50 an hour, but the coverage is better...

What about Tymnet? Don't they have something called US-Access, or
something like that? Anyone use this, or know anything about it? Or, for
that matter, does anybody know of any particularly good alternatives?

(For any of you long-distance company people reading out there in
net land, a good modems-only nighttime service for $1/hour (or less),
would make you rich!)

(BTW, all followup's should be/have been directed to alt.bbs just
for a lack of anyplace better to send them. If you don't get alt.*,
please e-mail me any responses, and I'll eventually post anything I get)
