[misc.misc] Computer based dictionaries with Chinese as source language?

bohn@utrurt.uucp (04/10/91)

Can anyone give me information or references on computer-based
dictionaries with Chinese (Japanese Kanji, Korean) as source
language entries?

I am especially interrested in the access methods offered by
those systems to identify characters "unknown" to the user.

Most of the input methods presently in use are designed for
inputting text consisting of characters well known to the user.
However, the situation for a translator from Chinese is
different. He will often be confronted with characters he may
well have never seen before. The pronunciation might be unknown,
the radical might be ambiguous, and the various stroke, shape,
corner and pseudo-radical methods are not as unambiguous and easy
to learn as their authors want to make you believe.

Does anybody know about solutions along the line of the Kanji-
input of the SONY Data Discman or of a mouse-driven approach?

As I can not receive this newsgroup regularly,

Thanks in advance!
