Nimrod and Sam?
	Booth Tarkington wrote three books about Penrod.
They are "Penrod", Penrod and Sam", and "Penrod Schofield".
(Humm, that last name doesn't look quite right.) Could these be
the books you are thinking of? This is sort of out of the line of
Sci-Fiction, they are about adolecent boys during the 1920's
but are excellent and very funny (if a bit dated).
