True Names, by Vernor Vinge, is finally out. It was scheduled to come out in November, but didn't. It's from Bluejay Books, and is $6.95 (!). My old copy (Binary Star #5) is disintegrating, so I guess I'll have to get it anyway. The illustrations are all new, and there is an afterword by Minsky. Anybody know if Vinge has net access? Seems like there ought to be an easy way to send fan mail. [If you're in the L.A. area, I saw it at A Change of Hobbit, in Santa Monica on Lincoln near Pico.] -- Jim Gillogly {decvax, vortex}!randvax!jim jim@rand-unix.arpa

You can send USmail to: Vernor Vinge Mathematics Department San Diego State University San Diego, CA 92182 I don't know if he has a net address. I plan on buying \True Names/, even though my copy of Binary Star #5 is still in mint condition. On a slightly different subject, Vernor's novel \The Peace War/ is excellent. I highly recommend this book; it will be on my Hugo nomination ballot. I believe that it is only available in hardcover now, though it should be out in paperback later this year. \The Peace War/ was serialized in Analog last year -- I don't remember which months, but will check if there is interest (and no one else has posted it).
