Hey all you mac people out there, or soon to be mac people! I am going to
be going abroad for a year and have decided to part with my Macintosh system.
I bought it just about two years ago now, and it is still in FANTASTIC shape...

The machine itself has had a major upgrade, the fan was replaced with the
newer quieter one that doesn't wiggle the screen; the power supply was fixed
(Apple's power supplies are notoriously bad); as well as the video board...
basically, a friend who is a tech for Apple fixed the insides, so it all works
great.

The imagewriter II is hardly used. I have had access to a laser printer for
my job so I only used it for about a month or two, still the original ribbon
even!

The thundersan scanner is great! I used it for campus newspapers, and the
like and am going to miss digitizing friends. :-)

The power thingy can take a direct hit from a lightning bolt and not fry your
machine. It also has a modem line filter. It's a GREAT system, it was their
top of the line till they came out with the new one about four months ago.

The modem is in fantastic shape as well, soon after I got it I was allocated
a 9600 from my job, so it too is hardly used. The carrying case alone cost me
70 bucks, but was worth it! The extended keyboard fits in the case, but sticks
out the top a little. Fine for cars and such, but I wouldn't trust it for
airplane carryone. The extended keyboard seems to have malfunctioned, but is
still under full warranty from DataDesk, I have just been hesitant to send it
since I knew I was selling the system.

The MIDI stuff I'm really going to miss. I will include all of the songs
I transposed onto Mac with the sale. I'm keeping my keyboard but not the
mac and MIDI stuff...sigh.

Anyway, I am asking $3100 for this system. I have lots O software too,
lots of PD, lots of non-PD, some manuals (still trying to find others, I
just recently moved 3 times...argh), and lots of time to help someone get
going.

If you or someone you know is interested, or would like to make an offer,
please have them either mail me at avalon@ssyx.ucsc.edu or call me in person
at (408) 426-2137.

  Thanks! Scott!

Face it. It's no use arguing. Nobody on the 'Net is going to pay your price.
'Net people are just too shrewd and/or smart. They are the types
that pay 10-40% less than what the average American pays for stuff
like this. If they're not students (and therefore eligible for student
discounts or can't afford to pay standard going rate), they're
computer professionals and know the in's and out's of the business.
They're the type that shops in the Computer Shopper, goes to
Computer Swap meets, and assembles Sun Sparcstations from old DEC
parts :-).

Take my advice: If you're looking for a quick sale, go to the 'Net.
If you after the best price you can get, advertise in the local
paper, ask around your friends if they know anyone who wants to buy
it,or post flyers on street corners. Post to the 'Net if you want
(it's apparently free for you), but don't expect a flood of
responses if your strategy is the latter...

What do I think about that??
Well I think it's damn stoopiid!
Why didn't you offer some college kid $300 to buy
the SE for you?
(and then pocket the $1000 difference)
And if warranty was your concern, well I
think that 90 days of AppleCare costs
a LOT less than 1000$

Can you say "conspiracy to commit fraud"?

Good, I knew you could. :-)

In our school, when you buy the computer, you have to sign an "agreement"
which states that you are buying the computer for yourself, not for a non-
education related person. If you turn around and sell the computer immediately,
you can get suspended and " stuff" like that.

You really consider that the SE's expansion slot is worth that much? The
fact that the Classic doesn't have an expansion slot speaks to exactly
that point. Apple says that 90% of current SE owners don't even use the
expansion slot.

You also have to look at the economics of buying a used SE and immediately
purchasing an expensive upgrade via the expansion slot vs. the cost of just
purchasing a more capable machine to begin with. If you're looking for a
black and white machine with 68000-level performance, a Classic is the way
to go.

I really hate to waste bandwith on discussions of this sort, but I
would like to point out that the Mac Classic has a memory expansion slot.
This isn't the same as the SE expansion slot, but some bright boys at serveral
different companies already make accelerators for that slot and some are
planning video cards.

And in all reality if you are going to buy a compact mac and want to
accelerate it or add video a used SE/30 is a much better platform. Built-in
apple-compatible acceleration (they made it) and color quickdraw to boot.
The only real difference between the Classic and the SE is the 5% speed loss
on the Classic. And if you install just on stupid init (a la Stupid mac
tricks) that'll go a away.

So in all reality it's probably a fair comparison.... I'd rather have
a one year warrenty on my equipment than a expansion slot I might never use)

These opinions are my own, but where I got them I'll never know...

Ok then, what sort of price range do SE owners have to go down to, to make
there SE and attractive sale?
