["Poppa get the hammer, there's a fly on baby's head." --Baby's Head Polka] I missed the start of this discussion, but the subject line is clear enough. My favorite is "When Shadows Fall (O'er The Canyon Wall)", by a lyricist whose name, if I remember right, was Applegarth: When shadows fall O'er the canyon wall And night birds call In the pine trees tall, The moonbeams bright From the god of night Come softly gleaming and beaming Where lovely maids sit dreaming, Whisp'ring, "Lo, 'tis time for mating, Don't be slow, thy love is waiting, Haste oh haste, no time to waste, Fond hearts are burning with yearning for thee." The copyright on this mess has probably expired, but I can't swear to it ... -- Col. G. L. Sicherman ...seismo!rochester!rocksanne!rocksvax!sunybcs!gloria!colonel

[Hi bug!] > Mephistopheles is not your name > I know what you're up to just the same > > A good example of just how far some people will go in forcing a rhyme > just to show off how well-read they are. At least he avoided trying > to rhyme something with "Mephistopheles". > Stephen Folta A lyricist who rhymed Mephistopheles Was guilty of forcing an awful sleaze. He tried to show offal And for conduct unlawful Was stung by a slimy anopheles. Gordon Fisher
