[misc.wanted] Information about icons of every sort wanted

We are compiling information about icons and pictorial symbols in
general. We are looking for books and papers on icon design, for
any lists of icons that exist, and in particular for any standards
or standardisation efforts.

Would anyone who has this sort of information please help us.
We shall naturally summarise to the net.
