We at Wright State recently received a tape containing Splice circuit simulator source from Berkeley EECS/ERL. It is the UNIX version intended to reside on a VAX 11/750 running ULTRIX 32. There have been more than a few problems with trying to compile the source and run it. The Splice package comes in three parts: a preprocessor (blt), the processor (splice), and the post processor (splot). Each part is an individual program. I could not get the second and third parts to compile without making source code changes (which, of course, might be very dangerous), but this is a moot point. The preprocessor, blt (for Berkeley Language Translator, not the food item), compiles, but attempts to run the compiled blt yields the following results. I've tried running both the example circuits on the tape and local circuit descriptions. Both attempts produce the same result. I get the message inpos: Error reading initialization file followed by several w: element name already used followed by w: element type must be an identifier followed by other assorted error messages, then an illegal instruction is encountered and core is dumped. It should be noted that the blt ratfor source WAS modified to indicate the location of the blt initialization file, splixx. I did notice that the version number on the blt code was version 7.2, while splice ans splot are version 7.1. I sent some email to a Berkeley address found in the midst of the blt code describing our problems, but so far it remains unanswered. So, what to do? Has anyone out there had similar problems? What did you do about it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. -- ______________________________________________________________________ Jerry Birbal jbirbal@wright.{CSNET,UUCP} ...!cbosgd!wright!jbirbal Computer Science Department, Wright State University, Dayton OH, 45435 513/873-3512
