[misc.wanted] Need UNIX accounting software

tbertels@ncrlnk.Dayton.NCR.COM (Tom Bertelson CTSP) (12/02/87)

Does anyone know of an accounting package - free or commercial - that
will let us charge out computer usage? I'm aware of the accounting
stuff that comes with System V, but I'm hoping for something a little more
turnkey. Thanks in advance.

I've looked at glossies for two packages from them. Job Accounting and
Job Scheduler. The two packages together cost $21,800 list for a VAX8600
running Ultrix. The price is based on machine size. They also have a 30%
educational discount. Job Accounting tracks usage and prepares usage
charges. Job Scheduler allows you to control the load on a machine. For
instance, you can put a limit of only six cc's running at once, when the
seven one tries to run it gets put on hold until one of the other ones
finishes. To me from the glossies and talking with the company, they
looked like good packages. I have not bought them because the price
seems a bit steep for what we would use them for.

Note - I am in no way connected with Aim Technology.
