[misc.wanted] An ingrate's tale of woe

From article <261@jolnet.UUCP>, by rich@jolnet.UUCP (Rich Andrews):
} There were door prizes given away such as
} a fortune 16:32 system, a 6300 plus, a IBM ps2 and a Data General One-model 2.
} Guess who won the DG-1? I did! Well i got the thing home and realized what
} a slow box it was and how useless it was for me. I called them back and
} talked to the salesman about trading it in for a 3b2.

This is like looking a gift horse in the mouth. If I got a computer
for free I would be surprised it it worked!

} He said I would have to talk to Morris and that to call back tomorrow.
} I did and did get to talk to Morris ( who was very short and curt i might
} add)
I don't blame him. Did you send any of your Xmas gifts back to the
givers and ask them if you could exhange them for something a little
	more expensive?

} and they would trade me a 3b1 with a 20 meg HD and that I would have to
} pay $500.00 for the OS.

You should have taken the 3b1 or DG-1 and quit while you were ahead.

} The owner called me
} back and asked me about my inquiry into the OS coming with the package. He
} claimed that I had said that I had called AT&T about it and that now he
} is "cancelling my award".
It is likely AT&T won't let dealers give away or deeply discount the OS.
My employer can't sell me some items at cost because of the way his
dealer agreement is worded. Once AT&T got wind of the give-aways they
	probably yanked his chain.
} All I really want is a 3b1.
You might want a 3b1, but you won DG-1. All your entitled to is the
DG-1. You might be able to arrange a trade for something else but
how much software that includes is something you will have to haggle
over with the dealer. I think the dealer should return your DG-1, he
gave it to you. It's your property now, not his. But he doesn't have
to let you trade it for something else. You were foolish to press for
more. Hey, if you won an Escort at a Ford dealership would you ask for
	a Lincoln?
