Some folks here are desperately seeking a few discontinued ICs to implement some additional interfaces (you DO want the next deep space mission to succeed, don't you?). They have tried without success to locate any Fairchild 96LS488 chips, and have been reduced to hoping that someone has some sitting around in their garage, or on an old board that doesn't work. Even if you have only one chip, I'm sure they wouldn't look askance at it.
