[misc.wanted] I do not have a blue book for used IBM PC's. Do you?

If you know the 'official' value of a used XT clone with
640K memory and a multi-function card, please e-mail me. Thanks.

My friend has a used IBM PC/XT clone (three years old) for sale.
He'd like to know how much he can sell it. I remember seeing
blue books for PC's in my campus bookstore long time ago but
I could not find one when I visited there last weekend.

I have the Sybex Blue Book... In order for me to quote you a price,
I need to know the brand names of all the equiptment because that is
the way it is listed. I will be glad to assist you.

Re: market prices for used computers

Try looking in the Computer Currents (or is it MicroTimes?) periodical;
they print the current prices of various used personal computers and
peripherals (sorta like the WallStreet Journal of PCs). There is an LA
version of Computer Currents, but I don't know about MicroTimes.

Sybex publishes a blue book in conjunction with the National Association
of Computer Dealers, whoever they might be. They come out twice a year
and a new one is about due. I have utterly no idea how the prices compare
with reality, but they do a fair job of covering the market.

The problem is that there doesn't seem to be any good way of
assigning value to clones. I have an XT and an AT bought from
a local dealer with a good reputation, but neither of them have a nameplate
on the front. "No name" to the nth degree! How do you put a value on these
types of machines, especially if you're not an experienced technician who can
speak Chinese? Got me...
