Posted for a friend:
We have a need to communicate via a byte synchronous
line using only asynchronous ports on our (DTE)
equipment. The only hardware converters we can find
are either very expensive, or impose some protocol on
the line. The closest device we have found so far is
from `Black Box', whose only problem is that the
asynchronous start and stop bits are dispatched,
making the synchronous protocol useless. We have to
conform to a particular protocol since the host
mainframe cannot be altered. Does anyone know of a
device of this kind which may be more useful to us?
