Hello all, Pardon the wide posting -- I'm getting a bit desperate. In the fall I will be teaching a course in programming at St. Louis University. The course will be in BASIC (consider it already flamed -- it's not my choice, either) on IBM PC's (ditto). I need to come up with a text (or two) for the course by early April. I thought this would be easy, but frankly, I haven't found anything worthwhile. I want this to be a course in programming that happens to be in BASIC (not the other way around), so I want a book that teaches sound programming techniques. It should also have exercises that can be assigned (this is not essential, but is preferable). I am considering using two texts -- one as a programming text, and a separate BASIC reference manual. The BASIC we will use is the standard GW BASIC that comes with the IBM's. By separating the reference manual from the text, a generic BASIC text could be used, or even one for another dialect, as long as it's not TOO different :-) What I'm looking for is recommendations for texts. If you have any favorites, please let me know. If possible, I would appreciate getting title, author, publisher (with address if not a major one), and whether or not it is in print. Please also include a synopsis, comments, or any other descriptions that you feel may help. PLEASE SEND THESE DIRECTLY TO ME AS E-MAIL!!! Don't trouble these poor news groups with this stuff. Besides, it wouldn't do much good for me, since I rarely seem to get time to read news, and don't regularly read many of these groups anyway! Mail to me can be sent to: (Internet): art@dinorah.wustl.edu (128.252.118.101) (Usenet): uunet!wucs1!dinorah!art (US Snail): Art Smith 8642 North Ave. St. John, MO 63114 (Work phone): (314) 362-2950 (Home phone): (314) 423-0193 Many thanks to all. If there is a lot of interest I'll post a summary to the groups where the interest lies. -art
