[misc.wanted] hard disk in pc clone

jtw@houxs.ATT.COM (J.WANG) (02/16/89)

Hi netters,
One of my friend have a Hyundai PC. He wants to know
if he can plug in some kind of hard disk in it.
	Some detail on that PC:
. It is a PC clone, not XT clone. It has NO manual.
. It has one floppy. NO separate controller card. NO cable(power,
control, data etc.) cable for hard-disk. One extension
		for second floppy though.
. It has space for second half-height disk. I believe it assume
the second disk is also a floppy base on above detail.
	. It is 8088 base, no 8087
. Power supply seems to pump only 75 watts.

I am wondering is he can use those plug-in type hardcard. He
basically just want to have a hard disk to store application/data.
Backup (such as space/power for a tape drive) is not a concern yet.

If anyone out there have any suggestion, experience, and/or
information/pointer etc. to place/price etc., please email me. THANKS!!!

Richard Wang

The problem that I have found with the hard cards that do not have a direct
connection to the power supply is that they tend to really load down the bus.
If you have something else on the bus that is looking for a lot of power there
as well, you may have a problem.

The power supply in that Hundai seems really small. If you have the slots
for a controller, you should be able to put a PC (not AT) controller in it
and use a half height drive. I suppose this all depends on weather the
power supply has leads for the additional dirve.

If you need more power chord off your main power supply than get a
Y- cord splitter if your Power supply can take
I'v run 2floppys + a hard off of a 90watt. longterm sucsess.
I know where to get Y-s for power if needed ...
