[net.sf-lovers] worst SF movie ever 'Battle Beyond the Stars'

This is not a bad movie, I thought. As a spoof, it's pretty
good.

Do you know what they're spoofing? Any ideas?

Ready?

The Magnificent Seven!!!

There was even an in joke about it. Bad Guy leaves one small spacecraft
to guard the planet, when john-boy and his motly crew return. Anyone
notice how many ships there were? (I won't spoil it.) "How many ships
are there?" "Seven!" "Seven? Oh my god..."

The cast, as I remember it, had Richard Thomas as the lead, George
Pepard (sp?) as 'Cowboy', John Saxon as the bad guy, and, listen
closely now, Robert Vaughn playing the SAME roll he originally played
in The Magnificent Seven!! How about that?

Someone mildly famous played Richard Thomas's love interest. Sybil Danning?.

The movie had some good scenes in it. Cowboy roasting a hot dog over
the heat emitting alians, the bad guy needing periodic transplants, (he
transplanted over the arm of one of the group creatures, whereupon they
took control of it and tried to off him.) the mutant surgon 'Dok'.
Special effects were no worse than the stuff you see in arcades. You
could tell that lots of thought and imagination went into the flick. If it
was bad, it was bad-amusing, not bad-bad.
