[misc.wanted] information on how to make SMTPE time codes generators

        I'm interested in finding out about SMTPE time codes, specifically
in finding out enough information to build my own SMTPE time code generating
box. I have a single-chip micro I can use, but what I need to know is
the format of SMTPE (both in terms of electrical signal levels and
pulse timing).

        Can anyone help? A source of a schematic for a SMTPE time code
generating box would probably be be ultimate, but any pointers you can
give me would be gratefully received. (I'll summarize if there seems to
be more general interest)
