[misc.wanted] List of NEW Mac prices

UD182050@NDSUVM1.BITNET (Mike Aos) (07/19/90)

Since almost all of the Macs I've seen for sale on the net lately are priced
ungodly high, I thought I'd post a price list of what they go for NEW. Many
people are trying to sell old systems for >NEW prices.

Mike

BTW-Yes, I realize this is a University discount price...lot's of use have
access to them.

Oops, before I get flamed to pieces, let me apologise. This is what I meant
to include in the original post.

I do not understand the point in posting this. You have made an
assumption that is VERY wrong. Not everyone has access to educational
pricing. If fact, not many people do, except for the people that go to
or work at the university. Because you get educational prices through
the North Dakota Higher Education department, doesn't mean that everyone
else does too. If it were so, then Apple dealers would be non-existent.

Mike Aos's list left out some of the genuinely FUNNY current apple prices.

At the UC-Berkeley "Scholar's Workstation," as of 7/16/90:

M0218 Apple 1 Mbyte Memory Expansion Kit.(SE/30, II only)..$245.00
M0219 Apple 2 Mbyte Memory Expansion Kit...................$388.00

A9P0332 Apple 1200/300 Baud Personal Modem...............$220.00
          (Backordered until Aug 90)
c0002LL/A Apple 2400 Baud Personal Modem...................$345.00

Remember, these are EDUCATIONAL DISCOUNT prices.

OPINION:
A salesman who sells his customer memory at these prices is a thief.
Since low-cost modems sometimes have reduced functionality, a salesman who
sells his customer modems at these prices is only probably a thief.
-------

Comparison shop for 1M SIMMs at $55 +/- $5 mail order.
2400 Baud modems can be had for less than half Apple's 1200 Baud price above.
Some fax modems cost less than Apple's 2400 Baud modem.

Is the Apple 1M Kit 4 256k SIMMs? If so, can't they be had for about $20
a piece?

FLAME ON: Mike DID NOT say everyone has such access; he DID say lot's of us
do.

>If fact, not many people do, except for the people that go to

I seem to recall a poll taken about a year ago which indicated that the vast
majority of usenetters were university types. I don't know if this was a
net-wide poll or just a (some) specific newsgroup(s) but it seems quite logical
to me since it was NSF which started the net to begin with and they are
heavily university oriented. Never-the-less, even if only a small percentage of
usenetters have access to educational discounts, the info Mike posted is still
useful and appropriate for this newsgroup. Your complaint is unfounded.

Sorry Rich, but it seems to me that you've got a bad case of sour grapes.
