First: Is Columbia Data Products, Inc. still alive? Next: I have inherited a Columbia Data Products, Inc. system. This system has dates of like 1982, 1983ish. Model # 1600-1. It came with 640K of memory, 2 full height 360K floppy drives, and all kinds of software, and books. My problem is: I want to put a hard drive on it. The book for the machine states there is already a hard drive contoller built onto the motherboard, but when I examine the area where the connector should be, I see nothing (but I haven't ripped it apart to see if it is there, just hidden from normal eye view.) I have a WD XT-Gen-2+ card, which I know works, and a Seagate ST-225 drive paired with it. When I insert the card in one of the slots, the system turns on in 40X25 mode, and does not go into the "TEST MEMORY" question/mode. I have tried IRQ 2, and still no luck. I also tried different addresses, again without luck. Is there anyone in Netland that has successfully worked on a system of this nature, and hooked up a hard drive to it? If it can only take the hard drive that was meant for the built on board, is there a way to disable it? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!! -- Tim xxwwxx@mixcom.com
