I think (may have heard or read somewhere) that ECM stands for
"Editions of Contemporary Music." It's as good a story as any.

New on ECM: "Changes" by Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock and Jack
DeJohnette. This record springs from the same sessions which
produced "Standards, Vol. I" relesed about this time last year.

In addition to taking care of its own, ECM distributes the Watt
label founded by Carla Bley and Michael Mantler. Latest release
is "Heavy Heart" by the Carla Bley Band. If subsidizing Warner
Bros. bothers you, Watt records are also available through New
Music Distribution Service in New Yawk, which Bley and Mantler
also founded. Inside joke lovers might be interested to know
that the only woman on earth who looks as goofy as Carla Bley is
her daughter. A dead ringer. Same hairdo. They played together
as a duo at the recent benefit for NMDS. John Cage also
"performed" at that concert (he read poetry in French).
