The pilot of "L.A. Law" (Monday on NBC) had, as a subplot the death of a partner in the firm. During the memorial service, the partner's secretary admitted to being a (straight) transvestite whom the partner had met in a gay bar and to whom he had given a great deal of emotional support. Despite a not terribly convincing job of drag, it was an interesting thing to include in the pilot. The partner is gone (unless "L.A. Law" and "Amazing Stories" merge), but it looks like the series will have a resident homophobe, an extremely sleazy (legally speaking) senior partner who fired the secretary as a "freak of nature". He isn't treated sympathetically. I wonder what will happen during the series. P.S. Harry Hamlin again displays his superb skill (as in "Making Love" and "Clash of the Titans") in impersonating a human being.
