I wish that I'd been paying a little more attention to the news last night, but anyway I missed the beginning of a segment with a doctor (presumably, medical-- I didn't get his name) that was speaking on behalf of the LaRouchian contingent. In spite of the current medical research into transmission of the disease, he stipulated in no uncertain terms, that AIDS is a danger to the general popula- tion. Insects (i.e. mosquitos) and air readily transmit the disease, he says. This in spite of the evidence that we have been told about recently. Nowhere in this brief segment was there anything suggesting that he was especially qualified to make such statements--simply that he was a doctor. He cited no research, just stated his opinions as facts. He was, of course, pro-Proposition 64. It is rather scary that the newstation (KABC-LosAngeles) will present a segment without challenging what this person is saying. People may very well believe him simply because it is easier to be afraid of something than to arrive at an informed judgement. One might expect to have both sides represented in an issue as explosive as this one is becomming. At least one might then have some hope of separating the wheat from the chaff. -- Dave Thompson uucp: {ihnp4|hplabs|psivax}!csun!dlt CSUN Computer Center phone: (818) 885-2790 18111 Nordhoff Street, Northridge, CA 91330
