[soc.motss] GayNet

anderson@uwmacc.UUCP (Jess Anderson) (09/23/86)

For some reason, I've been thinking (deeply, my dears) about
the net itself as concerns "our" subject. You know, we *really*
have something here, and I think we should all pause about one
or two seconds each day and hold a kind thought for that fact.
Think ahead a bit. As a relative newcomer to the net, but
quite an old hand in our topic area, I think the kind and (in
the better cases) quality of communications we have in the news-
group are really quite extraordinary. Think about where it
isn't or where it couldn't be. Above all think about what it
*could* be. I've been struck by the brotherhood/sisterhood,
the shared interests, the varying viewpoints and past experiences,
the really quite outgoing and forthcoming willingness to help
others. Some of the others are new to the scene, have special
questions, or just want everyone to have a better life. At the
risk of sentimentalizing things, I think it would be well to
take that brief moment, between struggling with all the big
issues and deep concerns, to appreciate it, our opportunities,
and each other. It could be a lot worse, and I well remember
when it was ... So, a propos of nothing other than that, hats
off to my friends, acquaintances, and as yet unknown colleagues
in one of the more civilized corners of netland ...
