[soc.motss] The new Crusade

MIQ@PSUVMA.BITNET (10/04/86)

In article <3927@utah-cs.UUCP>, b-davis@utah-cs.UUCP (Brad Davis) says:

>>>> that's funny. i used to make ammonium tri-iodide, didn't know about
>>>> nitrogen tri-iodide...wonder which is better? i had some pretty tremendous

CP SET :-) ON

The time has come for a new crusade. I officially declare war on all
the unwashed scum who would turn soc.motss into net.chemistry.trivia. I
call upon my good brothers and sisters to join me in this cause. Death to
the chemistry fanatics!!!

CP SET :-) OFF

Please folks, could we drop this already??

I don't particularly care where something is posted, if it involves giving
directions that, if followed, could result in injury I will post a warning
to that effect. I was the author of the first paragraph that you quoted.

I share your frustration over the interminable duration of these rather
trivial topics; this one I was an outgrowth of the "how do you use bleach
to sterilize syringes" outgrowth of an AIDS posting. Then the "be careful
not to mix bleach and ammonia" topic started, degrading to "what is the
chemical reaction" discussion and then a side-track to iodine and ammonia.

I'ts been weeks since I read anything on the topic, what's wrong
with your newsfeed?

Although I agree that the "nitrogen" triiodide article does not belong
in this newsgroup, I do want to point out that in large amounts, this
is a very dangerous explosive - the Anarchist's cookbook gleefully
encourages the making of TNT, nitroglycerine, etc., but cautions
readers NEVER to make nitrogen triiodide (although the recipe is given).
Of course in SMALL amounts, it can be fun...
