From: military@att.att.com (Bill Thacker) Saturday, 24 February, 1940 Following a February 17th meeting between Hitler and von Manstein, Manstein's "Sichelschnitt" (sickle cut) plan is adopted for the invasion of France and the Low Countries, Fall Gelb. Von Manstein's plan calls for a thrust through the so-called "impassable" Ardennes Forest with 5 panzer divisions, crossing the Meuse, and driving to the Channel, isolating the main body of French and British troops from Paris. A conference of the foreign ministers of Scandinavia concludes with a resolution to preserve the absolute neutrality of Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. Prime Minister Chamberlain calls upon Germany to reform her government so that peace may return, promising financial aid to assist Germany in the transition. In Munich, Hitler celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Nazi Party, promising to continue the war until "the plutocratic terror from abroad is removed." -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Bill Thacker Moderator, sci.military military-request@att.att.com (614) 860-5294 Send submissions to military@att.att.com "Germany would not have lost the last war if I had been Reichschancellor in 1918 !" - Adolf Hitler
