The Asian developmetn bank has approved an immediate loan of $150 
million US dollars to India as a special assistance to ease the
economic difficulties brought about by the Gulf crisis. According
to an ADB report issued in New Delhi, the loan will be made to
Indian Oil corp for 20 years with a 4 year grace period. Interest
rate will be determined in accordance with the bank's variable
lending rate system.

** Several senior Janata Dal leaders have resigned from their party posts.
They are Mr.Arun Nehru, Mr.Arif Mohd. Khan, Mr.Satyapal Mallik 
and Mr.Ramdhan.  Three other leaders Mr.Mohd Aslam, Mr.Mohan Guruswamy
amd MR.Chandra Mohan Singh Negi have also resigned from their posts.
The senior leaders have also announced that they will not contest the
general elections.

Meanwhile heavy political activity has begun in the northern state of
Himachal Pradesh for the 4 lok sabha  seats. Thease seats are
Shimla reserved, Mandi, Amirpur and Kangda. In the dissolved
LS, BJP was represented by three members and the Cong(I) by one.
The Mandi constituency has a sizeable number of tribal population.
A total of 4861 polling booths are being setup as 30,72,975 voters
are exptected to exercise their franchise.

The chief election commissioner Mr.Tirunellai Narayanaiyer Sheshan
(incidentally he was a graduate from Harvard and was a student of 
prof.Subramanya Swamy at Harvard at that time) today met the
chief secretaries, the Inspector generals of Police of Punjab 
Assam, Nagaland, A.P, Tamilnad, Lakshwadeep and A&N islands.
the special secretary in the home ministry was also present on the
occassion. 

The chief of the naval staff admiral L.Ramdass has inaugurated
the state owned IOC oil terminal in the coastal town of
Dharwad(??) in Karnatak.
