Elections to five parliamentary constituencies and 15 assemblies which
went to polls on Monday have been countermanded following electoral
mal-practices - the CE commissioner, Mr.T.N.Sheshan said.

They are Patna and one other in Bihar.
Bulandshahar, Etawa and Meerut in U.P.

Among those contestants from Patna are the finance Minister Mr.Yashwant
Sinha and the former external affairs minister Mr.Inder Kumar Gujral.

All the 15 assemblies are in U.P.

In Jaswant nager( name unclear) assembly constituency, the U.P. Chief
minister Mr.Mulayam Singh Yadav is among those in fray.

Naxalites surrender in Andhra Pradesh:

While the PWG has intensified its violent activities to scare people
to fall in line with itss call to boycott the elections, the dramatic
surrender of two militantsm including a Dalam commander to the police
has come as a shot in the arm for the latter.

In a press release, the DGP Mr.Prabhakara Rao said the two militants,
Yadamalla Amarendra Reddy alias Raju(26) who carried a reward of
Rs 20,000 and Nagampalli Srinivas alias Ramakanth who carried Rs 50,00
on his head surrendered to police.

According to police, Mr.Amarendra Reddy who was associated with N.C.Shivaji,
Sangarapu Venkateshwarlu and other joined the PWG as early as in 1981.
He was made the Dalam commander and was involved in several case 
including annhilations of police informants.
