New Delhi,June16 (PTI ) Congress(I) won 21 of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies where results were declared till late this evening and led in 186 of 374 seats for which trends were available but the party's good showing in Madhya Pradesh,Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu was not not matched in the crucial states of up and bihar. The party won six seats in each in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, three seats in Karnataka,two in Gujarat and one each in lakshadweep ,andamans ,Rajasthan and tripura . The BJP which went all out to capture power at the centre this time,won two seats in Rajasthan and one each in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. While Congress(I) and its allies had established leads in all the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu,the party was way behind the BJP and the Janata Dal in Uttar Pradesh and bihar. In Uttar Pradesh,the party was in the third position leading in just three seats out of 35 for which trends were available with BJP ahead iN 17 and Janata Dal in 12. In BiharJanata Dal and its allies were ahead in 20 out of 28 Lok Sabha constituencies . The BJP was leading in five and Congress(I) in three. .Bombay ======= Bombay, June 16 :PTI: the Congress-iwrested the opposition held Rajapur seat in konkan and retained four more seats--three in western Maharashtra and one in konkan. The major upset for the Janata Dal was the defeat of veteran parliamentarian and former union finance minister, prof Madhu Dandavate at the hands of a retired army major Sudhir Sawant who is making a debut in the Lok Sabha. The other gains of the Congress-iwere in inchalkaranji, Khed and satara in western Maharashtra and Ratnagiri in konkan where the party's nominees were re-elected. According to resports reaching the state headquarters, the Congress-icandidates were leading in 23 more constituencies, the BJP and ShivSena in three constituencies each and CPI in one constituency. In the nainital Lok Sabha seat, Mr balraj puri of BJP was ahead of Mr n d tiwari by 1202 votes after the third round of counting. For wardha Lok Sabha seat in maharastra, Mr vasant sathe was trailing behind Mr Gangare ramaChanDra marotRao of CPM by 11226 votes after the third round of counting. While Mr a b a ghani khan Choudhury Was down by 2026 votes against Mr sailen sarkar of CPM after the first round in malda, Mr k p Unnikrishnan of the Congress-s was trailing behind an independent candidate by 4459 votes after the fifth round in the badagara Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. .Bhopal ======== state : Madhya Pradesh constituency : chhindwara status : Mr kamalnath (inc) beats Chudhary Chandrabhan Singh (BJP) by 79632 votes Newdel ====== Among the prominent losers were senior JD leader and former union finance minister, prof Madhu Dandavate and the former Rajasthan Chief minister,Mr.Jagannath pahadia. Prof.Dandavate failed in his bid to bag the Rajapur Lok Sabha seat for the seventh successive time and came a poor third behind Mr.Sudhir Sawant of Congress(I) who wrested the seat from him and Mr.WamanRao mahadik of Shiv Sena. Mr.Pahadia lost the bayana Lok Sabha seat to mr.Ganga ram of BJP.
