Happy New Year Everyone!
I would like to make an announcement of a great event that will be
happening in New Orleans on the weekend of May 22-25 (thats Memorial Day
weekend for Americans). This event is NETCON.
What is Netcon? It is where everyone in the net.world gets together and meets
all the different people that they have talked, mailed, messaged or had any
other type of electronic communication with. There will also be a guest speaker
to talk to us while we are there.
Netcon is a semi-annual event that has been going on for several years now, but
the one this spring is different. Not only is it the first Netcon to be anywhere
close to western people (the others have all been in New England), it is also the first to be open to people of all networks. It was started by several peopleon BITNET who wanted to get together and meet each other and it has been so
successful that now we are going to make it a multi-net event. So all of you
out there on UUCP, Arpa, CSNet and all the others are welcome!!!!
For many people, getting to New Orleans can be expensive, so the netcon
committee is working to help you get there cheaply. The best thing that we can
suggest is that you find a group of people who are willing to go and then drive
down, sharing expenses. Also we suggest you see a travel agent and soon before
Memorial day blackout prices come in. At the bottom of this posting is some
travel information that may also help you.
Many people that come to Netcon are college students and like to bring T-shirts
from there college to trade for other colleges t-shirts. We also have official
netcon t-shirts that are available for $8.00 US before netcon and $10.00 US
when you get there. We also would like to have some idea who is planning on
coming to Netcon so please fill out the form at the bottom and send it to either

From Boston to New Orleans:
all at $178.00 round trip flying to New Orleans:
Delta, Eastern, Peadmont, North Western, T.W.A., United.

For N.Y.C. it is also $178 round trip to New Orleans
on the same air lines...

Cincinatti $198 round trip (might do better with a travel
agent out there!!)

Chicago is $99 ONE WAY out of Midway airport.
so I check a Travel agent there also!

Los Angeles is $158 round trip on Transtar Airlines.

Well that is the major information on flights. There are trains from
all over to New Orleans. To get prices and times just call
1-(800)-U.S.A. RAIL. They should be able to help you a lot.
Also if you are planing on driving to NetCon please send a note
to Jeffrey P. Robinson (IP60583 at PORTLAND). He is trying to help
people get to NetCon with low travel expenses and if you can help
with info it would be greatly appreciated.
