...according to a couple of sources at IBM, part of the reasoning behind their
doing away with the Tech Refs for the XT is to help coerce current XT owners to
buy the new BS...er...PS/2 systems by giving the impression that they won't
support the XT ever again, and that if you want support of any kind, you've
got to buy the PS/2.

...nothing personal, Big Blue, but I wonder what the FTC would have to say
about that. If I understand the rules correctly, they have to keep on hand
(or make available) parts and manuals for repair for at least 10 years after
discontinuance of prodution for the IBM in question. That'S the way it works
for TV sets, so I doubt that IBM is exempt.

...on a side, but related note, IBM also refuses to ship the Service & Repair
manuals for the PC/XT series, and this applies to authorized servicemen as well.

Oh well, when you're number one, you can get away with a LOT of $#!T it seems...
