The system I work on has gotten awfully bogged down lately, although it's better than the last couple weeks of classes. Some things we do include regulating games based on load, and asking people not to run too many background jobs that run forever, in hopes of giving everyone a fair slice of pie. Sometimes people screw up though and we are forced to intercede on their behalf and terminate their jobs. For instance, there's this guy named root who always runs these big programs USER PID %CPU %MEM SZ RSS TTY STAT TIME COMMAND root 2 0.3 0.5 6528 0 ? D 8:46 pagedaemon root 210 0.2 0.1 5 3 ? S 13:39 /etc/update root 221 0.1 0.5 49 26 ? S 11:54 /etc/rwhod root 0 0.1 0.1 0 0 ? D 1:28 swapper root 78 0.1 1.0 230 55 ? S 3:57 /etc/named /etc/named.boot root 225 0.0 0.8 60 42 ? S 0:46 /etc/inetd root 1 0.0 0.9 63 48 ? S 2:05 init This is really annoying. I've never even talked to this guy, and he's always running the same programs. I mean, some of those things aren't too bad, but I bet if I kill off that "pagedaemon" program things will really speed up! :-) Anyone else ever have these problems? O&*^!#@$ Hey, who turned off the lights? Oh, muffin queen, you really know how to turn a hacker on! There's root, his aggravating brother root2,and this f***ing encore jack*** who keeps shuting the system down so that he can hog the resources when the system comes back up. Cause of these jerk our systems the original $2 whore Right now root is running 75 programs. He isn't even logged on.
