[talk.religion.misc] I AGREE!!

Well, well, well. You two guys are right on the ball again. (You go the
same schools, read the same books - think the same thoughts! GIGO)

Tim Maroney (the Electronic Village Idiot - how apt!) says he agrees with
Mike Huybensz about the idea, "Jesus' prophecies concerning his death and
resurrection form a very small part of the Gospels compared to his teachings
on a variety of moral and spiritual issues." The implication being that the
"moral teachings" are somehow of greater import based upon the number of times
they are set forth. (No doubt both Mike and Tim studied under teachers - in
Public School - who taught them that constant harping is the way to establish
and recognize truth statements - witness their net tactics) Then Tim favors us
with a shower of theological rabbit droppings ('corpse-worship', etc ).

Let's see now . . . the commandment 'Thou shalt not kill' forms a very small
part (only 10%, eh?) of the Ten Commandments so . . . . And 'Thou shalt not
steal' likewise. Come to think of it ALL of the Ten, taken by themselves,
form a "very small part", just as the gang of two so wonderfully point out about
Jesus' prophecies concerning his death and resurrection!

The result of such reasoning, it seems to me, is that I can throw out any single
commandment or all of them one at a time on the grounds that each one is "a very
small part" of the whole!! Throw out or ignore with impunity. Look, if Jesus
said his death and resurrection were important - THEN THEY WERE! It really
doesn't matter how many times he said it!

The same thing can be done with the Bill of Rights, the deed to the ranch, or
instructions on how to disarm a mine.

Children! To give weight to arguments/statements on the basis of how many times
they are mentioned is pure HASA swamp gas!

Is it possible to 'over emphasize' a particular doctrine at the expense of
others as Tim suggests? Of course. Is it possible to IGNORE teachings on the
basis of emphasis (times mentioned)? NO! Jesus CLEARLY (as admited) said
his death and resurrection mattered!!!. . . and were the basis for his coming
and his moral teachings I might add.

You guys (Tim and Mike) really don't seem to mind parading around the net with
your mental flys open! You sound like my little kids saying to me, "But you
only told me once to pick up my room!"

Seems to me a good spanking is in order for these two young men.

keep chargin'
