From: R H Davis <RDAVIS@USC-ECL.ARPA> Showscan, a process developed by Trumble at Paramount Pictures, is a high quality version of IMAX/CINEMAX. Images are photographed sideways on the frame(70mm, I believe) at a rate of 65 frames per second. The frame is also projected on it's side at 65fps. This allows for a very clean image that fills the screen (about 3 stories high) and maximizes the audiances nausea factor (!!!haha!!!). Showscan also utilizes an extremely high quality digital playback sound system. The only problem with the process is that the film must be especially made as most film stocks shatter under the pressure of 65 fps (the film is started and stopped in the camera/projector 65 times in a second). It's great....but it's much more expensive than Imax to shoot.....too bad. bd -------
