There is a bill before congress >that attempts to limit the exclusionary rule, give the military >police powers, and institute the death penalty in certain drug >dealing cases! It's worse still. The House passed the drug bill in question, complete with the three amendments Don alludes to. What has *not* been widely reported in the press is that the clauses that permit the admission of evidence illegally obtained without a warrant, where the police acted "in good faith", and permit the use of the death penalty when death is caused as "part of an ongoing criminal enterprise", are *not* restricted to drug cases, as some would have us believe. The other disturbing aspect of this is that these assaults on our civil liberties are supported by the Democratic House leadership. It would appear that the Democrats and Republicans are trying to outdo one another in cracking down on the "drug menace", now that media hype has successfully detached public perceptions of the problem from reality. And as for Tim's plea above, it's a little late to write your Congressbeing now. Try your Senators. Baba
