> >The problem with religious oriented candidates is that they represent a >particular view of morality that is shared by their members, but not >necessarilly everyone else. Even if they are in the majority and vote >to enforce their morality, it is tyranny. > Everybody has a particular view of morality. If the issue (i.e. murder not be be considered acceptable) has a consensus position in the society (like ours) it will eventually be codified into our laws. This is representative democracy at work. To prevent or at least mute any "tyranny" of the majority certain Constitutional protections exists for minority opinions and positions. However, the Constitution is just a stout dam that holds back the river but it must pass on some of the water. You can bet your butt that if enough people wanted to return to human slavery in this country then the Constitution would be successfully ammended to allow for that practice. I'm sure any target group for being slaves would fight it but they would eventually fail. >Government interferes with all to many facets of individual lives as it >is. I would say we should have had another item in the Bill of Rights, You take off from here to speak of many libertarian ideals which have a nice ring to them and you finish up with a polemic on religion (mostly Christianity mind you) being responsible for most of the evil that has befallen man since Jesus was crucified. Anyway, you know the facts Jack. You know how our system works. If you are so afraid of us Father Stabbin', Mother Rapin' Christians gaining power over you, why don't you do something about it in the old fashioned American way ( while you still can :-) ) ? Support the heck out of candidates and programs that will grind the snot out of the Christian candidates and programs. If you don't do your part to hold back Attila the Nun, you will only have yourself to blame !! Bob Brown {...ihnp4!akgud!rjb} -- Bob Brown {...ihnp4!akgua!rjb}
