A new newsgroup "misc.headlines" has been created. This is for discussion of current events. Recent events that would have been appropriate for this newsgroup include New vs Old Coke, Libya/terrorism, the invasion of Grenada, etc. The names misc.headlines and talk.headlines were both considered. In many ways, we expect this to be a talk newsgroup. However, we felt it would be best to give everyone on Usenet access to this newsgroup, so that such discussions would not spill over onto other newsgroups. I urge that future discussions of current events be carried out in misc.headlines ONLY. If such discussions turn up in other newsgroups, or if volume in misc.headlines is excessive, the group could easily be moved to talk.headlines. If the newsgroup does not make it to your area, ask your netnews administrator to first check that "misc" is reaching you, and then to create it locally. Mark Horton
