Charter for Mod.Conferences [last revised 6/23/86] [modifications are marked with an '*' on the right margin...] This is the charter for this moderated group, mod.conferences. WHO: The moderator of the group is Dave Taylor, of HP Labs in Palo Alto, California. Electronic mail about this group can be sent to either conferences@hplabs or hplabs!conferences. WHAT: This group is created for the purpose of posting announcements of * upcoming conferences and calls-for-papers. Each posting will have * an expiration date that is the last day of the conference or the * last day of the submission period. No reviews of conferences will * be posted - volunteers to moderate a group of that nature are welcome. * WHEN: The information will be as timely as is possible - negotiations are underway with the ACM and IEEE to minimize delay in notification. WHERE: On the Usenet, obviously! WHY: It was perceived that there is a significant gap in the transmission of conference related activities to the Usenet community. This group will fill that gap. It is expected that every member of the Usenet community interested in conferences will subscribe to this group - great efforts will be taken to limit the traffic in the group to a low volume. HOW: To get a conference announcement added to the list of announcements, mail it to the moderator at the above address. If it is a conference that a suitable number of Usenet members will be interested in, it will be posted to the group. The same obviously holds true for calls-for-papers. * Other Notes: The format to be used for displaying conferences is not final. The Moderator welcomes any feedback and/or suggestions on how to improve it. Organization of the various conferences is also open to input - the current scheme will be to post each conference as it is recieved. Each posting will have a list of keywords that is simply a list of the groups sponsoring the conference (e.g. SIGPLAN). Alternatives include having conferences related to a previous one (say, a couple on programming languages) would be posted as `responses' to the first posting, and/or having a base message with an infinite lifetime for each of a group of major subject areas. Further Notes: * * Each posting will contain Keywords: that are the sponsors of the * conference and Location: which will list the location of the event. * This will be in City, {State,} Country format, so it is expected * that people will write filters to, for example, mail them copies of * all calls-for-papers in their local area...More on that as the group * 'evolves'. * Also, the subject line will always start with one of the following * three words; * Administration: an adminstrative message from the * moderator (should be VERY rare) * Call-For-Papers: a posting of the same name * Conference: a posting, again, of the same name. * The overall format of the information will vary, most likely, but * the fields indicated herein (Expires:, Keywords:, Subject:, Location:) * should stabilize rather quickly. As always, feedback is requested. *
