The conference will open on the evening of Sunday, November 9 and will conclude in the afternoon of November 11. In the space of one year the Centre's conference has grown from an informal gathering to a structured conference with refereed papers. Mr. Howard Webber, Vice-President and Publisher, Houghton Mifflin Company, will give the keynote address, "The Machine in the Lexical Garden: Publishing and the Automated Lexicon". There will be ten sessions presenting original research on theoretical and applied aspects of lexicology with topics ranging from building lexical databases and the structure of dictionaries to thesaural knowledge representation. A full status report will be given by members of the New OED project team from the University of Waterloo and the Oxford University Press. This conference offers an excellent opportunity for people from a variety of disciplines to meet and discuss freely common interests in the lexical field. Registrants are of an international audience, representing universities and publishers from Japan, the Unitied Kingdom, Europe, Canada and the United States. There are still openings for the conference and members of the faculty and student body are encouraged to attend.
