If so, read the following announcement, posted on behalf of the New Zealand Unix Systems User Group (Inc). --- Conference Announcement --- Date: Tuesday 14th May, Thursday 16th May, 1987 Theme: "Unix as you like it" Streams: 1. Commercial 2. Technical (ie non-commercial) Venue: Travelodge Auckland International Airport New Zealand This notice is to publicise the above event, and to provide an opportunity for suitably qualified applicants to indicate their interest in being considered by the organising committee as an "Overseas Speaker". Our previous conferences have attracted such notables as Ken Thompson, Mike Florio, Larry Crume, Mike Dubrall and Ian Johnstone. At our first conference Ken noted that with 150 attendees out of a total New Zealand population of 3 million (the 70 million sheep don't count :-)), our conference was one of the largest "per capita" Unix conferences in the world. It is also significant that the after dinner speaker for our 1986 conference was the Governor-General (the Queen's representitive) of New Zealand. We plan to select a total of five overseas speakers for Unix '87, with each speaker presenting two sessions - one to the entire conference, and another presentation/discussion within either the commercial or technical streams. We are currently negotiating with a number of speakers, and are confident that Unix '87 will be a great success. As a non-profit making organisation, NZUSUGI is sensitive to the increasingly high costs of running an annual conference. Although the organising committee is in a position to make some contribution towards overseas speakers costs, we would appreciate sponsorship from supportive commercial organisations. Specific funding arrangements will be discussed with the successful applicants. Thankyou for your support. Ian M.
