For anyone seriously interested in the latest Japanese experimental
rock, there are several intriquing new releases:
Haruomi Hosono has put out a new Friends of Earth LP (with the
CD edition containing an extra track), called Sex Energy something
or other. It is highly electronic, much like SFX, but with
vocals by James Brown and other soul musicians, and including
a cover version of "Sex Machine".
More challenging is a new LP by a woman named Koharu Kisaragi
(under the auspices of Riuichi Sakamoto).
Also, another female vocalist group called "Pool in the Sun"
has released their first LP (or EP, having only four tracks"
entitled "Rabo del Sol".
In addition, Sandii and the Sunsetz have finally released
their fourth LP, Banzai Baby; and Haruomi Hosono's proteges
Urban Dance have just released their second LP.
All of the above are available (at least in theory) on CD.
All are extremely expensive (upwards of $18 on vinyl).
