[mod.music.gaffa] a day of colleKTing

IED0DXM@UCLAMVS.BITNET (09/25/86)

Yesterday IED was in West L.A.'s Rhino Records, quietly
mourning the usual absence of taste in music there,
when he overheard The Name uttered from somewhere within
the bowels of that squalid shop.
Some novice was on the point of purchasing a
bootleg lp of Kate which IED had never seen before.
The price was $15.00. IED immediately offered
$20.00 for "A Bird in the Hand". The novice quickly
succumbed to the foul cupidity of his greasy nature,
and took the filthy lucre as payment for the demonstration
of his ignorance. IED, cackling inwardly with the
success of his outing, took home his prize, and set it
spinning. Of course he had not held any illusions about
the disc's probable content, but still was mildly
disappointed to have to confirm that naught therein lay but
the crude pressings of a second-generation taping of
8 of the 12 tracks from the official Hammersmith film.
Still, the cover boasted two fine early photos in
blue ink with pink borders, so it was a welcome
addition to the fold.
Interestingly, this bootleg is marked: "cover produced
in U.S.A., 1986"; and according to the labels, the
record's alias is "Don't Let Me Go".
