[mod.music.gaffa] Earle, you're slipping...

hofmann@NRL-CSS.ARPA (Jim Hofmann) (10/10/86)

FAST. No really, BravEar, Spring '86 has been out for quite awhile - at
least since the beginning of last summer.

Speakin' of zines, I notice that whenever Conflict raves about a band, Spin
and Village Voice do feature articles on them about a month later. Witness,
Pussy Galore, for example. Gerard prints a flattering interview with 'em
and lo and behold, Greil "white bread" Marcus cum Village Voice gives 'em
the ol' school boy thumbs up in the latest Voice. I think it's a safe bet
that Spin will feature them in their "my_aren't_we_cool_and_hip" section
wherein they printed that Soul_Asylum thingie (again months after Gerard
prints an interview). In another zine, Sporadic Droolings, Gerard of Conflict
is interviewed and states that among the people he hates are people who write
for Village Voice or Spin. I would, too. It seems like he's doing their
work for them. Oh and an aside to Sue T. if she's still around, Gerard took
over Homestead at the ripe age of 19. That was back, I believe, in '83.

Other zines that King Wavo will be ranting about next year are the latest
Non-Stop Banter with a Dewar's profile on Westerberg. Also, Creem profiles
The MEat Puppets, now that they suck... in fact, the whole focus of Creem
has changed from heavy metal to 'Merican Garage (that includes the Pogues,
by the way).
